I bet that those who watched Funke Akindele in the 1998-2002 sitcom, “I Need to Know”, did not know that she would probably grow to become such a strong woman, and one of the most outstanding actresses in the Nigerian movie industry today.

For about two decades now, Funke has continued to mesmerize us with her beauty and acting prowess on screen. Her ability to take up any role and interpret it perfectly well made her become the toast of producers and directors in Nollywood, and it wasn’t long before she became a household name in Nigeria.

With hundreds of films to her credit and a plethora of awards and recognition, this young lady has done a lot for herself. Born on August 24th, 1977, to a medical doctor’s mother and a now-retired school principal father, Funke seemed to have had the idea of what she wanted to do with her life from a young age. And she set out to pursue that path earlier enough.

She attended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and the University of Lagos. She is the second child in a family of three.

Funke Akindele has had her own fair share of misfortune in marriage. In May 2012, she was married to Kehinde Oloyede, but the marriage didn’t last long. The marriage collapsed the following year. Their break up was said to be allegedly caused by the fact that Kehinde was previously married with two kids, which Funke didn’t know about it.

We know how devastating it can be for a woman to lose her marriage, but she did not allow her failed marriage to weigh her down, as she continued to strive in her career and to also believe in love. Few years after that she found love again, and in 2016, she got married again to Abdul Rasheed-Bello, popularly known as JJC Skills.

The couple has continued to wax stronger in love, and a couple of days ago, they celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary.


Motherhood is one of those beautiful things that happened to Funke before she clocked 43. In 2018, rumors began to circulate that Funke was pregnant, and everyone was eager to hear the validation or denial from her. But unfortunately for her fans, she did not say anything concerning that. And everyone began to wait in anxiety.

And in December 2018, the couple finally opened up and told everyone that they had welcomed their babies – twins boys. The experience of motherhood is certainly one of those high points of her first 42 years.


Funke Akindele has won awards and endorsements more than many of her contemporaries in the industry, and these are proofs of her creativity in her career and also the goodwill she enjoys from the public.
